Bassil G. Madanat is a seasoned IP attorney, leveraging over a decade of experience advocating on behalf of start-ups and Fortune 500 companies alike. As a registered patent attorney, he employs creative and cost-effective strategies to help protect his clients' most-prized IP assets and provides practical guidance on how businesses can maintain their edge over the competition.
Before founding MAD IP®, Bassil was Counsel at a boutique IP firm in Century City, and was responsible for handling a variety of patent, trademark, trade secret and other commercial IP matters. He has also advised and provided diligence for angel firms seeking to invest in new tech start-ups in the Los Angeles area. Before private practice, Bassil externed for the Honorable Dana Sabraw of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California, worked in Legal Affairs at FOX and clerked for The White House Office of Science & Technology Policy under President Barack Obama.
Bassil earned his J.D. from the Pepperdine School of Law in Malibu, California, where he also received a Certificate in Intellectual Property, Technology and Entertainment Law. Prior to law school, Bassil earned his B.S. in Physiology & Neuroscience from UC San Diego and studied Spanish Language, Literature and Culture abroad in Córdoba, Spain. He is proficient in Arabic and conversational in Spanish.
Outside of the office, Bassil serves as a Preceptor & Mentor to J.D. Candidates at Pepperdine’s School of Law, as well as an Alumni Council Member for the prestigious Webb Schools of California. He is also a member of the Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association, having served on the Young Lawyers Committee for a number of years. In his free time, Bassil also likes to songwrite, travel and spend time with his family (including his 11 nieces and nephews!). He can also be found searching for the perfect rooftop view.
